4th of July: Nautical Vibes

Nautical
Event location: Fireworks on the beach. | Spending the day sailing.

Day 3 of outfits! Are you getting tired of seeing these looks? I hope not - because I'm not tired of sharing them!
So this look was a tad bit out of my comfort zone, but only because so much of me is exposed. I definitely would not go as far as saying that I lack self-esteem (I think that's far from the case), but I mean, I AM a girl (and human for that matter), so I do have some self-conscious-related body issues. For starters, I have very broad shoulders. I would say that I am proud of them (I really am) because it's a characteristic of women in my mothers family, but I can be self-conscious of them at times, especially when everything I am wearing hugs the skin quite closely.
I think it's a fair statement to make that any woman (and males too!) regardless of size or body shape has something about themselves that they aren't particularly fond of. Whether it be a cowlick, maybe a funky toe, or something that perhaps only those you are most intimate with will see, everyone has something! And that's okay, because it makes us all human. I don't like to believe that any body is perfect, and if someone appears to be, it tends to be a lot of smoke and mirrors.
Regardless, I fought through my own issues with this outfit, because I truly do think it looks cute, and can be pulled off by women of any body shape.

Both my body suit and shorts were purchased from Forever 21. While I do tend to find a lot of their items quite juvenile, every once in while I stumble across some great finds. (I tend to do really well in completely packed - almost overflowing - racks of clothes, and if you've ever been to Forever 21, you know that this store is filled with them). So, I can definitely say that I was quite pleased with both of these purchases.

I have a 36 C chest, and any of you larger-chested women know that wearing strapless tops can be a real challenge at times. Luckily for this strapless bodysuit, the lining of the tube top is made with a sort of sticky rubber, so it holds nicely to my skin.
I also love how these nautical shorts have a high waist, it gives them a very vintage feel. I feel very Brigitte Bardot in them and I won't complain about that.

These sunglasses were purchased at Five Below, and like I said in my previous post, I try not to spend more than $5 on sunglasses because I have a knack for losing them. I also must have thought I was being quite funny wearing them on the back of my head in the next photo. (I always say, if you're not having fun while you shoot your photos, well then why bother shooting them in the first place? My photos are a fun way for me to express my inner-self and let the kid in me come out to play sometimes).

(Only downside of a body suit is that sometimes you can't hide the panty lines too well. Plus, they are quite hard to see on the screen of my camera - especially in the sunglight, so this slipped right past me. Whoops!)

I also think I should mention these Prabal Gurung for Target wedges. They are super comfortable, although when I first purchased them, I was not wearing the straps tight enough, so they would move as I walk and began irritating the back of ankle. That problem was eventually solved, and these have become a staple in my wardrobe.

  9. It's so funny to me how our flaws/concerns translate. Honestly, if you didn't mention panty lines, I would never have even noticed. I still don't notice them in the pics! Crazy girl! Also, broad shoulders? Please! I don't see it. Haha! You look awesome - what a fun look!

    1. Luckily it's not too noticeable, but still! And hahah that's because I always photograph with my shoulders back. As my mom always says "lead with the girls!"

  18. This is such a cute outfit! I absolutely adore those shorts! I don't own any strapless tops because I always feel as though I am one wrong move away from exposing myself, haha... but the stickiness of this top has me intrigued. I may have to check out Forever 21 soon! Loving your 4th looks, Amanda!

    1. I would definitely suggest one that is stickier at the top. And it's nice because it actually stays in place quite well! Hope you had a fun time in Wisconsin last weekend! Hope to get together soon!
