Style and Sound

Maybe it's just me, but some of my best/worst decisions are made late at night as I'm laying in bed. I've never been a "head hits the pillow and out like a light" kinda girl, although I many times have wished to be. Instead, I get sucked into the worm hole that is online window shopping. I'll be honest with you too, it's not just late at night where I browse all my favorite clothing stores, it's basically all day long. Late night just happens to be the time of day where the judgement switch gets turned off and I impulse buy. Regardless, I'm happy that I decided to purchase this Chicwish skirt, and even happier that I get to share this fun photo session with you.

(twirling!)

I thought it would be fun to pull out some props (as I'm growing more and more a fan of them), so what better items to use than my guitar and my mom's old records. I wish I could say that I'm quite talented at the guitar, but truth be told, I never learned anything besides Mary Had a Little Lamb. I insisted for months that my parents buy me a guitar back in high school, but my interest in playing didn't last more than a few months. Oh well! These happen to be some of my favorite records as well, and I love the Linda Ronstadt album cover because it reminds me of my favorite story about my mom, back before she had kids and was married. (Let's just say it involved the 37th floor of a building, knee high socks and roller skates!)

Okay, back to the skirt now! I purchased this about 2 months ago from Chicwish, and if you haven't heard of them, I urge you to visit their website and do some browsing because they have the cutest prints.
What I love: For starters, the print. I like that it's strong enough to stand on it's own because it makes styling it that much easier. Also, with black and white, you have an infinite selection of colors to pair with it so the outfit possibilities are endless. Plus, this skirt fits pretty TTS. I have a 28" waist and ordered a medium, and it fits comfortably where I still have some room to breathe. And pockets - don't you all just love any dress/skirt with pockets?!
What I don't love: The pleating. I honestly have a love/hate relationship with pleats. I truly do love them as I think they naturally give any skirt or dress a bit more body, however, I hate ironing them. This skirt showed up SO wrinkled, and the pleating needed a lot of work before I could wear it. After much frustration and many hours later, I decided this was the best that it would get. (Some battles just aren't worth it). I also am on the fence about the lining of this skirt. I had purchased two skirts when I made this order, and while the lining on the other skirt is fine, this almost has a plastic feel to it, and I was worried that while ironing, it would begin to melt or burn. So I put my iron on the lowest heat setting and gave it my best shot. It's not exactly perfect, but who sees it anyway?

(pockets<3)

(The Go-Go's fun fact: They made history as the first, and to date only, all-female band that both wrote their own songs and played their own instruments to top the Billboard album charts. Talk about girl power! Plus, some of their songs are just so damn catchy)

(This photo made me laugh because it shows me trying to catch my footing after a twirling shot. You could say I have two left feet and more often than not find myself tripping and falling in the most random places!)

  7. Ha I also browse clothing shops online all very frequently! It used to take me a little while to fall asleep (for years), but luckily lately I've been falling asleep within a couple minutes most of the time. Very cute skirt!! Love novelty prints so much. :)

  8. Amanda, that skirt is too cute! I love it! And I am definitely not a "head hits the pillow and out like a light" kind of girl either. I lay in bed and stay up for like an hour just thinking. I don't know why, but I do! It's kind of annoying on the nights when I really should be going to bed... my husband is the total opposite. He just has to lay down and he is out!!

    1. Haha just a fair warning, you won't be able to browse their sight without the strong (and likely) desire to purchase something. I have a few more items on my wishlist, but hoping they restock in my size!

  17. Oh I love this skirt! I'm not terribly musically inclined (I played piano for 8 years, but not sure I would do well today. Haha.) but I now I want this skirt! Love your props as well! And oh gosh, I hear you on the pleats. I have a couple skirts that just about kill me when I have to iron them. I would rather rewash something than iron it!

    1. Haha I have just been loving props as of late - I'm not too sure why. Perhaps because I always feel lost as to what to do with my arms. And I'm glad I'm not the only one that dreads having to iron! ;) <3
