4th of July: Updated Retro Glam

Updated Retro Glam
Event location: Fourth of July garden party.

This has to be one of my favorite outfits that I put together. This String Light Celebration skirt from ModCloth is one of my most loved items, although strangely enough, the last time I wore this was 8 Months ago (you can read that post here). I also just happened to pair it with a blue top both times. Whoops - it was a different shade though, so I don't feel too bad!

I found these goooorgeous Yves Saint Laurent pumps in a very high end thrift store years ago, and they have basically sat in my closet for years, minus a handful of times that they have been worn. It was fun to pull them out and get some use out of them, although I was quite careful standing in the grass as I did not want the hells to sink in and get dirt on them. As you can see from my twirling photo below, I had to take them off, just to be on the safe side.

Not my best twirling photo, but with a self timer, I eventually just had to give up as I was slowing losing daylight and had a few more outfits I needed to shoot.

I really wanted to find some fun props to go along with this photoshoot, and since I happened to be at my parents for the weekend, I went up into their dreadfully hot attic and snagged this Lady Liberty, along with a few other items that you will see in posts-to-come.

Growing up, my mother always went all out with decorating our house, and that's not even an exaggeration. For Halloween, neighborhood kids would call her the Good Witch, as our entire wrap around porch was decorated to the T- with a smoke machine, fake body parts in jars, a smoking cauldron and even a spellbook that she put together herself. I'm lucky and blessed enough to say that I had an amazing childhood. Plus, if my mom never splurged for holidays, these posts would be prop-less! (So thanks mom!)

I love this necklace, although I will admit it actually belongs to my mom. If you wondered where I got my love for fashion and accessorizing from, it's my mother. Between the two of us, we could probably open our own department store (sorrynotsorry). Also, as a side note, the bracelets worn in these photos also belong to my mom. I had packed a lot for my trip home (as we also had a destination wedding we went to), so I tried to only pack what I truly needed.

I almost forgot to mention this great Michael Kors bag. As I've gotten older, I've become more and more a fan of crossbody purses. It just makes for so much convenience when out and about because I can be completely handsfree. I have some really beautiful (and expensive) purses that always get neglected because having to hold them by the handles just gets to be annoying.
So the long and short of it? Crossbody bags=My new best friend.

  1. I love this outfit! You have the cutest skirts in your closet! ;) Using props is such a good idea for photoshoots... If I ever do an outfit post I should really think about adding some props! Would probably make standing there less awkward :P
