July Guest Post: Sara Lily from In A Nutshell

Good morning!
So it's officially July, and the weather here in PA is gorgeous! July also makes me a bit sad though because it means that the summer is flying by too quick, and I just want time to slow down! So to help lift my spirits I've started a new monthly blog series where I will be featuring some of my favorite online bloggers. I was excited to ask Sara Lily to star in my introductory post as I always find myself oogling over her fancy frocks (and drooling over all the sweet treats she whips up!). Sara Lily and I met through Instagram and over the last year we've become great virtual pals.
One of my favorite things about blogging is that it makes the world quite flat. I interact with different friends in all parts of the country, and also world, and it's as if I am standing right there next to them. I have Instagram friends that have turned into blogging friends, and blogging friends that have turned into real life friends, and I just love that about this lovely little community. So before I start rambling on too much, I'll turn this post over to Sara Lily:

Happy 4th of July, Sans Scrubs readers! Sara Lily from In a Nutshell here!

The countdown is on for the holiday weekend. With a day off from work combined with all the delicious treats, I really kinda love the 4th of July. Don’t worry, I don’t wear head to toe American flag apparel, but there’s just something special about the first big summer celebration.

For me, the 4th means there’s a big bowl of steamed clams accompanied by a tall ice cold Diet Coke with my name on it. My dad has been whipping up a HUGE pot of steamers every year for as long as I can remember. We devour them on the back porch along with burgers and my mom’s macaroni salad. It’s perfection. My sister and I could finish that huge pot by ourselves – that’s how much we love them.

I know, how much more New England-y can I get? I probably have clam juice running in my veins by now.

Anyway, so, this dress.

I have to admit, I don’t buy a lot of Pinup Girl Clothing but I did browse the shop when they had their Memorial Day sale (so funny as I am sharing this for 4th of July – patriotic purchase much?) and this dress popped out at me as I was scrolling. I had heard all the Mary Blair excitement when PUG first announced her line but none really tickled my fancy...

…BUT I HADN'T SEEN THIS ONE!

So after staring at the dress on my screen for a good half hour (not even kidding - I kept it up as I cleaned the house and with every glance at the screen, debated whether or not I needed it in my life), I caved and joined the Mary Blair bandwagon!

I just couldn't resist the bright colors and how the red and blue just sort of pop. And the little jet planes are just too cute. It just screams 4th of July to me with all the red, white, and blue. I love the matching red belt it came with, too.

When it came time to pull this puppy on and snap some pics, I decided to take a walk down the street from my house. We live right by a lake surrounded by hiking trails. I always consider it as a backdrop for my blog posts but never actually take the 2 minute walk down the street to take advantage. Laziness at its best, people.

I finally did and it rocked! While I skipped around the woods snapping pics, Cody sat in a good ol’ fashioned folding chair and went fishing. He even caught a fish (only to toss it back, don’t worry)! It was such a beautiful day and there was such gorgeous light coming in through the trees as I took advantage of nature’s beauty all around me.

Geeze, what could be more patriotic than that?

I hope you all have a great 4th of July weekend! What are you doing for the holiday?
-Sara Lily
